Why converting HEIC first is the wrong move
The usual advice is "just batch-convert everything to JPG." Don't. Converting first is slow, doubles your disk usage, and — depending on the converter — can strip or mangle the EXIF GPS and timestamps that make location sorting possible. You'd be throwing away the exact data you need.

Trips and venues, detected automatically
Photos taken more than 80 km from your home address are automatically treated as a trip and get a State/City (US) or Country/City (international) prefix, so a two-week vacation separates itself from your everyday shots. Recognizable venues — theme parks, cruise ships, museums, concerts, restaurants — become their own subfolders, so travel folders are genuinely useful instead of a flat pile of dates.
Private by design — on your own AI key
